Our English programme focuses on developing strong skills in reading comprehension and writing, while building vocabulary, grammar and critical thinking skills to support students across all areas of their learning.

Reading Comprehension

Students develop the skills to read with greater understanding and confidence, including:

• Understanding main ideas and key details
• Building vocabulary through reading
• Making inferences and drawing conclusions
• Identifying purpose, audience and text structure
• Analysing characters, themes and ideas
• Finding evidence within a text
• Answering comprehension questions effectively
• Developing critical thinking and interpretation skills

Writing

Students learn how to plan, structure and improve their writing across a variety of text types, including:

• Creative and narrative writing
• Descriptive writing
• Persuasive writing
• Informative and explanatory writing
• Paragraph and essay structure
• Sentence development
• Grammar, spelling and punctuation
• Vocabulary and effective word choice
• Editing and improving their own work
